We all want to make a difference. But do we?

Humans of every walk of life have a nagging longing to make a difference in the lives or others, in Truth, to make a difference in the world. But how do we know if we are, or better yet, how do we make that difference? This question is one I am asked repeatedly. The simple answer is, “because you are here.” You might think this too simple an answer for such a thought provoking question.

The Truth is because you are here. You, me, none of us would be here if there wasn’t a purpose for our being here. And in serving that purpose we make a difference in our own life, the lives of those around us, in the whole of humanity and the world at large.

We must stop comparing ourselves to other people and what we perceive they do or have done in the world. Who they are and what they do has nothing to do with who you or I are, or what we are here to do. We are here to live in full expression of the truth of who we are. That’s it. Be yourself in every way possible.

By being YOU, your own uniqueness, you make a difference in the world. There is not, has never been and never will be, another you. ~ Jim Phillips Click To Tweet

Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Yet this is what we struggle with most in life. This is what causes the most stress, suffering, anxiety, struggle and fear. We continuously try to be someone or something other than that which we truly are. We believe that by acting and thinking like people who we perceive to be making a difference that we will have a similar impact on the world. The world has way too many “I wanna be like” people and not enough “I am who I am” people who have the courage to live in full expression of their own truth and beingness.

“Be you and the world is a much better place.”

Make a list of all who have made a difference in your life and how. I know, I just said don’t compare yourself to others and now I am asking you who has made a difference in your life. I do this not so you can be like them, but so you realize that those who have made the most difference in your life are not necessarily the most successful, most popular, most attractive or most influential. They are the people with whom you come into contact on a daily basis. They are the ones who are more authentic in how they live.

You might know some famous person you admire who has made a difference, but I am willing to bet that those for whom you hold the most respect and who have been the most influential are not famous. Take note of how these folks are just being who they are and in that expression are making a difference in the world and the lives of others, including you.

Live from the knowing that you are making a positive difference. Be conscious of the difference you are making in this world. Give yourself “props” when you see and feel how you have made others feel. Let go of the belief that to make a difference it has to be a singular monumental thing you do or create, or for that matter, that it has to be monumental at all.

However, understand that everything you do that makes a positive difference in a person’s life is monumental, if only to them. Monumental doesn’t mean it has to be played out on the world’s stage or shared 5,000 times on Facebook. Who you are and what you do in this world is first and foremost for your experience and expression of your true Self. As you live in and from this Truth you make a difference, in fact you are the difference.

When we know who we truly are, and we live from that knowing, that is enough. When we live in full expression others will surely take notice. And that is the difference we make in this world. As we live in the full expression of the Truth of who we are we serve as an example to others of who they are, and in so doing empower them to live in full expression of who they are, the world becomes a better place.

“We are each a unique expression of the Divine. As we live in full expression of that Truth, the Divine is in full expression”

Serving as an example to one another of the Truth of who we are and of what we are capable of creating is the greatest gift we give to one another and the world.
