Yes, I took liberty with the word wise and wrote why’s, however you will see that the wise always seek the why.
We all know the scenario when a child, perhaps our own, asks why after why after why until we get to the point of just saying, because I said so or because that is just the way it is. It can be annoying for sure, however it does reveal a few aspects of our Self that if given the proper attention could serve us well.
For example, it reveals our level of impatience and causes frustration and stress. But, is the problem really impatience or is it an inability to answer the question? Does being asked why bring to our realization that we don’t really know why and that we have somehow in some way been accepting things as they are without question?
What if what we know is incorrect? What if our whole life we have made decisions based on incomplete and therefore inaccurate information. How far from the Truth might we be?
But that’s a different topic for another article. For our purposes here I will discuss the importance and benefit of “why.” To which of course you respond, Why?
Asking and answering why leads to greater personal empowerment. For the one asking why the empowerment comes in gaining more information that leads to greater knowledge, understanding and awareness. The more we know and understand the more empowered we become. The more aware we become the better the choices we make.
For the one being asked why empowerment comes from the opportunity to share what is known and understood. It is in sharing what we know that we are given the opportunity to more deeply explore and understand what it is we do know.
Empowerment also comes in the form of the opportunity to search deep within our Self to find the answer if we don’t readily have it. It causes us to think and to take responsibility for our thoughts and ultimately our beliefs, the true source of empowerment.
Being asked why brings to our awareness that we don’t know why we believe what we believe and therefore seek to find the answer. The more we seek to find the answers the more we can live from the Truth as we “know” it to that moment and in so doing make more empowering choices.
A mantra of sorts that I have used for this process is:
Today what I know to be true, tomorrow might not be~Jim Phillips Click To TweetBy following the advice of these three why’s men life can be more interesting, more exciting and more awe inspiring. Here’s what they have to say regarding the benefit and importance of asking “why”.
- Why’s Man One: By asking why, we gain clarity. With clarity we expand our understanding and knowledge. The greater our understanding and knowledge the greater our awareness. The greater our awareness the more empowered we become. The more empowered we become the greater our experience of life and our Self.
- Why’s Man Two: By asking why we give others the opportunity to expand upon and experience their understanding. Asking why causes deeper thought and consideration, something that is not as prevalent as perhaps it once was. As a society we have a tendency to resort to pat answers out of expediency.
Asking why invites thoughtful conversation and further questioning. When we ask why it is important it be done in a way that would not cause the other to feel uncomfortable or to prove them wrong. It is asked out of a of a genuine interest in knowing why and therefore, knowing more.
Again, it is expansion. We are expanding our understanding through our asking while the person sharing the why is expanding their understanding by digger deeper into their knowing.
By asking why we show respect for another by wanting to know more of what they know. We respect their knowledge and experiences of life. We honor them for who they are through our curiosity in wanting to know what they know.
- Why’s Man Three: By asking why we are expressing our curiosity for and about life which then supports our ability to Live In Full Expression of who we truly are. Living in full expression in every moment is our purpose for being here.
By asking why, we realize that the way we see things (life) is not necessarily the way life truly is, but is only our perspective. Asking why gives us greater perspective. It keeps life interesting which keeps us interesting. When we ask why we are seeing life through eyes of possibility and wonderment.
Asking why is an acknowledgement that we don’t know what we don’t know, however we are open and receptive to what might be. The more open and receptive we are to the Truth of what might be the more the Universe brings us the opportunity to live from that truth.
One of the biggest, most important why’s we can ask our Self is, “Why do I do what I do?” This why is the motivation behind everything you do.
By asking this question you will soon discover that what you thought was your why might not be your true why. Knowing your true why brings you to the truth of who you are which allows for the grandest experience and expression of that knowing.
So how did these why’s men come to know what they know? It is quite simple.
“Wise men become so by asking why” ~Jim Phillips Click To Tweet
Having read this article you might question the purpose behind it. To which I respond, “Why do you ask?”
